Safety Protocols for Emergency Tree Work

Safety Zone Evaluation: Before commencing any operation, we identify the possible hazards of a job site (power lines, gas leaks, unstable structural components). In addition to defining what will constitute a safe working area for our crew, we also identify what areas should be restricted due to safety reasons and post warning signs to alert anyone that unauthorized access to these areas is prohibited.
Electrical Hazard Management: The primary danger when trees are in contact with overhead electrical power lines is electrocution. We do not start any removal operations until the local electric company has confirmed that all electrical conductors have been de-energized. At all times, we maintain a safe distance from all electrical equipment and infrastructure.
Assessment of Structural Stability: When a tree falls onto a structure (building), there is always a possibility that the structural integrity of the adjacent structures could also be affected. We check for signs of instability in all surrounding structures. If we identify a potential hazard we will clear the immediate area of people before we continue with the removal.

Communication Protocols: Emergency response requires effective communication between all parties involved. We utilize continuous radio communications to coordinate our responses to changes in the operating environment.
Monitoring of Current Weather Conditions: We monitor current weather conditions throughout emergency removals. If weather conditions deteriorate to a point where it would create an increased risk to our personnel (i.e., lightning, severe winds, etc.), we will immediately suspend our activities.
